HCMC – Vietnamese and Japanese enterprises signed 10 memorandums of understanding on business, trade, and investment in agriculture as part of a high-level agricultural cooperation dialogue in Tokyo.

The sixth Vietnam-Japan high-level agricultural dialogue took place on September 4, outlining stronger cooperation in agriculture, forestry and fisheries between the two nations.

The event drew Government leaders from both countries and nearly 100 enterprises.

Speaking at the forum, Japanese Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Koizumi Shinjiro affirmed that the signing of 10 memorandums of understanding reflects the efforts of private enterprises from Japan and Vietnam.

These agreements are well aligned with the medium- and long-term vision of cooperation between the two countries, promoting the adoption of technologies to boost productivity, cut greenhouse gas emissions, and reduce environmental burdens, he said.

Acting Minister of Agriculture and Environment Tran Duc Thang emphasized that amid global challenges such as climate change, energy crises, and food security, Vietnam-Japan cooperation in agriculture is more strategically significant than ever.

Thang called on both sides to further promote market access for each country’s key agricultural products and facilitate trade in agro-forestry-fishery goods for the benefit of producers and consumers in both nations.

He stressed the need to step up trade promotion and cooperation in emerging potential areas such as organic produce, OCOP products, bio-recycled byproducts, and agricultural services.

At the same time, efforts should focus on building sustainable supply chains and strengthening bilateral investment links from production and processing to distribution, with the aim of reducing costs, improving quality, and meeting international market standards.
