HCMC – Vietnam and Laos are collaborating to enhance their border trade infrastructure, according to a decision signed by Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son.

Decision 1247 seeks to strengthen cooperation among ministries, local authorities, and border provinces in both nations, following a memorandum of understanding between the Vietnamese and Lao governments. This effort aims to improve cross-border trade connections, supporting local businesses in expanding their access to distribution networks along the border.

As part of the initiative, Vietnamese and Lao authorities will evaluate current infrastructure to identify areas in need of upgrades or new investments. A priority list of projects will be established, aligning with regional planning in border provinces of each country.

Annual meetings will be organized to attract investment in border trade infrastructure. The Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Lao Ministry of Industry and Commerce will oversee these coordination efforts, promoting cross-border trade.
