HCMC – Vietnam has started work on 10 projects on Phu Quoc Island off the Mekong Delta province of An Giang to serve the APEC 2027 Economic Leaders’ Week, reported the Government news website (baochinhphu.vn).
Seven projects got off the ground, including the DT.975 provincial road, Cua Can reservoir, underground utility works in Duong Dong and An Thoi, infrastructure and digital transformation facilities, a smart operation monitoring center, coastal embankment and site leveling for the APEC conference center, and the An Thoi resettlement area.
Three other projects began preparatory work. They include the Bai Bon waste treatment plant in Ham Ninh, the An Thoi solid waste treatment plant, and the Cua Can reservoir water plant.
Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung said the projects would serve APEC 2027 and provide long-term infrastructure for Phu Quoc. He asked local authorities and ministries to accelerate work, aiming for completion three to six months earlier than scheduled.
All projects are expected to start construction by October 2025. Authorities were instructed to ensure safety, quality, and livelihoods for relocated residents.
