HCMC – The Ministry of National Defense has deployed over 425,000 troops and 4,000 vehicles, boats and aircraft to respond to super typhoon Yagi, the strongest storm to hit Vietnam this year.
During a meeting chaired by Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Le Minh Hoan on September 4, Colonel Nguyen Van Khanh of the Vietnam Border Guard Command said that military orders had been issued to provincial units since September 2. The Border Guard Command has been actively preparing flood shelters and reinforcing infrastructure in vulnerable areas.
Authorities have issued advisories against potential flash floods and landslides in northern provinces such as Dien Bien, Son La, Lai Chau and Lao Cai. The typhoon is packing winds at level 17.
Local border forces are working with fishermen from Quang Nam, Quang Ngai and Phu Yen provinces, and Danang City to relocate vessels to safe areas. However, communication challenges and the reluctance of some fishermen to follow safety protocols remain ongoing concerns.
The Ministry of Defense has ordered all military units to stay on high alert and to work closely with local authorities as the storm is moving closer to shore.
