HCMC – The Vietnam Railway Authority has announced that it will begin work on nine railway projects between now and 2030, including the North-South high-speed railway, the Lao Cai–Hanoi–Haiphong line, and the HCMC–Can Tho line.

These projects are expected to require a total of around US$100 billion and have drawn interest from major corporations, according to the Ministry of Construction.

The 1,541-kilometer North–South high-speed railway will link Ngoc Hoi Station in Hanoi City and Thu Thiem Station in HCMC. It requires an estimated US$67.34 billion, which will come from the State budget and other lawful sources.

The feasibility study for the North–South high-speed railway will be done this year, with the cross-country line aiming for substantial completion by 2035.

The Lao Cai-Hanoi-Hai Phong railway project will span around 388.1 kilometers. Its feasibility study is scheduled to be carried out this year, with project completion targeted no later than 2030.

The Hanoi Eastern Ring Railway project will start at Ngoc Hoi Station and end at Kim Son Station, with a total length of 31 kilometers. Construction is expected to begin in 2027 and be substantially completed by 2032.

The Ministry of Construction has assigned the preparation of a pre-feasibility study for the Yen Vien-Pha Lai -Halong-Cai Lan railway project. Its construction will begin in 2027 and be completed by 2030.

The Thu Thiem-Long Thanh railway project, spanning 42 kilometers, is currently in the pre-feasibility study phase. Construction is expected to begin in 2027 and be completed by 2030.

The Ministry of Construction has proposed that the prime minister assign the HCMC People’s Committee as the governing body and include the project in the urban railway development plan.

The HCMC-Can Tho railway project starts at An Binh Station in Binh Duong Province and ends at Can Tho Station in Can Tho City, with a total length of 175.2 kilometers. The project is currently undergoing a pre-feasibility study, with construction expected to begin in 2027 and be completed by 2032.

The remaining three projects—Bien Hoa–Vung Tau, Vung Ang–Mu Gia, and Thap Cham–Dalat railways—are currently in the pre-feasibility study phase, with construction anticipated to commence before 2030 and conclude by 2035.
