Must read

The Vietnam Plastics Association (VPA) celebrated its 35th Anniversary at the Sheraton Saigon Hotel, marking a milestone for one of Vietnam’s most dynamic industries. The event opened forward-looking discussions on how innovation, circular economy, and social responsibility will shape the future of the plastics sector.

The feature film “35 Years of Formation and Development of VPA” highlighted the industry’s journey — from small-scale production in the 1990s to a US$32-billion sector exporting to nearly 190 countries. In her keynote address, Ms. Huynh Thi My – Vice President and General Secretary of VPA, reviewed major milestones and urged enterprises to shift from quantity to quality, invest in eco-design, and embrace sustainable practices.

Prof. Dr. Vu Minh Khuong – Professor of Practice, Economic Development Strategy and Policy Analysis Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy National University of Singapore, presented a strategic roadmap identifying digitalisation, automation, and public–private partnerships as the key to sustainable growth and global competitiveness.

A highlight of the celebration was the panel discussion “Vietnam Plastics Industry in the Era of Rising”, chaired by Mr. Dinh Duc Thang – Chairman of VPA. The session featured experts from the Ministry of Industry and Trade, ViEF, Dow Group, and academia, sharing insights on innovation, recycling, and green transformation.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Dinh Duc Thang, Chairman of VPA, said: “Vietnam is entering a new era with stricter environmental and trade requirements. This is both a challenge and a motivation for our industry to restructure, innovate, and strengthen recycling and eco-friendly material development.”

He emphasized that “Aspiration to Rise” would serve as the guiding compass for the industry’s sustainable transformation, highlighting the need to build domestic petrochemical capacity and align circular growth with Vietnam’s long-term economic ambitions.

The event also honored outstanding member enterprises (2020–2025) for achievements in innovation and sustainable development, and featured the signing of an MOU between the Vietnam Plastics Association and the Vietnam Waste Recycling Association (2025–2028) to jointly promote circular economy initiatives, develop technical standards for recycled materials, and support environmental certification for export.
