HCMC – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will attend the expanded G7 Summit this weekend, from May 19 to 21, at the invitation of his Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida.
Vietnam is one of the two Southeast Asian countries invited to the summit this year, along with Indonesia. This is the third time Vietnam has been invited to an expanded G7 Summit and the second time at the invitation of Japan.
The 49th Expanded G7 Summit will take place on May 20 and 21 as part of the G7 Summit from May 19 to 22 in Hiroshima, Japan.
The expanded summit is expected to discuss a range of crucial issues, such as crisis resolution, climate change, energy, environmental issues and economic development.
Vietnam and Japan established diplomatic ties on September 21, 1973. Japan is Vietnam’s fourth largest trade partner, with two-way trade reaching around US$50 billion last year.
As of March 2023, Japan has nearly 5,000 operational projects in Vietnam, with total registered capital of nearly US$70 billion, making it the third largest investor among 143 countries and territories investing in Vietnam.
