HCMC — Vietnam and Poland have agreed to enhance cooperation in cybersecurity and law enforcement.
Vietnam’s Minister of Public Security Luong Tam Quang met with Krzysztof Gawkowski, Poland’s deputy prime minister and minister of Digital Affairs, in Hanoi City on October 27. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the signing ceremony of the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime, known as the Hanoi Convention.
Quang said the convention provides a global legal framework for cooperation in investigating and preventing cybercrime. He added that relations between Vietnam and Poland have grown since the two countries established diplomatic ties in 1950, with recent progress following Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s visit to Poland in January.
The Vietnamese minister said both countries have significant potential to deepen cooperation, particularly between their law enforcement agencies. Both sides signed a memorandum of understanding on cybersecurity cooperation during Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister Gawkowski’s visit.
Quang called for stronger collaboration between law enforcement agencies, more information sharing, and closer coordination in combating transnational crimes, including cybercrime, terrorism, and human trafficking.
He also proposed expanding training programs for law enforcement officers and simplifying visa procedures for Vietnamese citizens working or studying in Poland.
Gawkowski praised Vietnam’s role in developing and organizing the signing ceremony of the UN Convention against Cybercrime, saying it demonstrates the importance of multilateral cooperation in addressing cyber threats and crimes.
He said Poland’s Ministry of Digital Affairs would work closely with Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security to implement the new cybersecurity cooperation framework and strengthen bilateral relations.
