HCMC — Vietnam recorded a trade surplus of US$7.63 billion in the first half of this year, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).
Total trade in the January–June period amounted to US$432.03 billion, up 16.1% from a year earlier.
Exports in June rose 16.3% year-on-year to US$39.49 billion. Second-quarter exports hit US$116.93 billion, up 18% from the same period last year and 13.6% from Q1. First-half exports totaled US$219.83 billion, up 14.4% year-on-year.
Processed and manufactured goods accounted for US$194.28 billion, or 88.4% of total exports.
Imports in June were US$36.66 billion. Q2 imports reached US$112.52 billion, bringing total imports for the first half to US$212.2 billion.
The U.S. was Vietnam’s largest export market, with shipments valued at US$70.91 billion. China was the largest source of imports, with US$84.7 billion.
Service exports during the period were estimated at US$14.79 billion, up 21.2% year-on-year. Travel services accounted for US$7.62 billion, or 51.5% of the total, while transport services contributed US$4.35 billion, or 29.4%.
