HCMC – Vietnam Railways has increased passenger train services and added around 20,000 seats to meet rising travel demand during the New Year 2026 holiday, according to the Vietnam Railway Transport Joint Stock Company.

The New Year holiday will last four days, from January 1 to January 4, 2026. In response, the railway operator has deployed additional trains on several routes and added carriages to existing services.

Alongside regular daily passenger services, including North-South railway, known as the Reunification Express, regional routes, and popular tourist lines, the company will operate extra short-distance trains and attach more cars to scheduled services.

On the southern routes, additional services will run between HCMC and Nha Trang on December 31, 2025, and January 4, 2026. Extra trains will also operate between HCMC and Phan Thiet on January 1 and January 4, 2026.

In the north, eight additional trains will be added on the Hanoi–Haiphong route between January 1 and January 4, 2026. Four extra services will operate on the Hanoi–Lao Cai route on selected dates from December 31, 2025, to January 4, 2026.

The railway operator said newly scheduled trains would provide about 13,400 additional seats.

In addition, more carriages will be attached to existing daily services, including North–South trains, HCMC–Danang, HCMC–Nha Trang, HCMC–Phan Thiet, Hanoi–Vinh, and Hanoi–Haiphong routes. These measures will add roughly 6,600 more seats.

In total, the rail sector will supply an additional 20,000 seats during the New Year 2026 transport period, a company representative said.
