HCMC – Vietnam has taken delivery of five T-6C Texan II training aircraft from the U.S., marking a significant milestone in the U.S.-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The handover ceremony took place on November 20 in Phan Thiet, attended by U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Marc Knapper, Commander of the U.S. Pacific Air Forces General Kevin B. Schneider, and Commander of the Vietnam People’s Air Defense-Air Force Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Hien.

The delivery represents the first batch of 12 aircraft that are part of an initiative to enhance Vietnam’s pilot training capabilities.

According to the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi, the transfer underscores the growing defense ties between the two nations and aligns with broader cooperation frameworks such as the 2011 Memorandum of Understanding and the 2024 Joint Vision Statement on Defense Cooperation.

Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the delivery is part of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership aimed at fostering peace, collaboration, and sustainable development. It is seen as a step forward in bolstering Vietnam’s air force modernization efforts and reflects the shared vision for a resilient and independent Vietnam.

The T-6C Texan II, widely utilized for pilot training, is expected to significantly enhance Vietnam’s air force training programs as the country continues its defense modernization.
