HCMC – Vietnam detected 11,912 cases of smuggling and trade fraud in the first eight months of this year, showed data from customs authorities.
The seized goods were valued at an estimated VND16.15 trillion. Fourteen cases were prosecuted and 76 were transferred to other agencies for investigation.
From June to August alone, customs detected 5,459 cases, prosecuted 10, and referred 35 to other authorities. The actions generated more than VND184 billion in state revenue, the Ministry of Finance said.
Tax authorities inspected 19,048 companies in the three-month period, proposing settlements worth VND16.14 trillion. These included additional collections of VND5.27 trillion, cuts in deductible tax of VND750 billion, and reduced losses of VND10.12 trillion. Actual payments to the state budget reached VND2.88 trillion.
Over the January-August period, tax authorities inspected 32,812 companies. They proposed settlements totaling VND35.32 trillion, including VND10.41 trillion in additional collections, VND1.5 trillion in deductible tax cuts, and VND23.41 trillion in reduced losses. Payments to the budget stood at VND5.4 trillion.
