HCMC – The Ministry of Health today, December 10 confirmed 14,839 fresh Covid cases and 216 new fatalities.
Among the latest cases, 20 were imported and 14,819 were locally infected in 57 cities and provinces, down 481 cases over yesterday.
HCMC took the lead with 1,226 domestic cases, followed by Soc Trang with 894, Tay Ninh with 893, Ca Mau with 822, Dong Thap with 744 and Ben Tre with 712.
Can Tho, Hanoi, Khanh Hoa, Binh Phuoc, Bac Lieu and Vinh Long detected over 500 infections each, while the rest were found in other localities.
The latest Covid cases have raised the country’s Covid count to more than 1.38 million, with 1.37 million cases detected in the ongoing fourth wave of the pandemic, which began in late April.
Over 1,360 Covid patients were discharged from hospitals today, raising the country’s total recoveries to over one million.
Among the 216 new Covid deaths, 71 were reported in HCMC, 33 in Dong Nai, 15 in Binh Duong, 14 in Tay Ninh, 12 in Tien Giang, and 11 each in Bac Lieu and Can Tho.
Dong Thap, Binh Thuan, Vinh Long, Kien Giang, Soc Trang, Long An, Tra Vinh, Ca Mau, Hanoi, Ninh Thuan and Binh Phuoc reported fewer than 10 deaths each. The country’s Covid death toll now stands at 27,402.
Speaking at an anti-Covid meeting chaired by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh today, Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long said that the number of Covid cases in the community and Covid deaths is on the rise in several cities and provinces.
The country reported 100,254 Covid infections this week, with 57,538 cases in the community, up 10% week-on-week, while the number of Covid fatalities soared by 24.3% against the previous week.
Minister Long said that the country had administered 131 million doses of the Covid vaccine, with the second dose vaccine coverage for adults achieving 76.5%. Fifty-seven provinces and cities are implementing the vaccination campaigns for children aged between 12 and 17.
Due to the complicated development of the pandemic, the prime minister urged provincial and municipal governments to adopt effective and appropriate anti-Covid measures, speed up the vaccination drives, promote the capacity of healthcare systems and ensure social welfare.
The prime minister ordered provinces and cities to complete the administering of the second Covid vaccine shot to adults before December 31.
In related news, Haiphong City has detected several Covid infection clusters at industrial parks.
A representative of the An Duong District government in the city said that 180 employees at the Trang Due Industrial Park had tested positive for Covid-19, Lao Dong Online reported.
A Japan-invested company at the Nomura Industrial Park also detected 20 Covid cases.
Besides, Haiphong City reported a complicated infection cluster related to Regina Miracle International Vietnam at the VSIP. As of December 8, the company detected 82 positive Covid cases after over 30,000 employees were tested.
