Vietnam reviews use of coal ash in road construction

By Truc Dao

Must read

HCMC – The Ministry of Transport, in collaboration with the Ministry of Construction, is revising standards for incorporating coal ash from thermal power plants into road projects, reported the local media.

The Transport Ministry has proposed clearer guidelines for reusing industrial waste in construction materials and land reclamation. This initiative aims to standardize the use of recycled materials, including fly ash from thermal power plants, in road construction.

Authorities are pushing for the publication of national and local standards on reclaimed materials, such as recycled asphalt and concrete, for road surfaces. The ministry is also working with the Ministry of Science and Technology to ensure compliance with technical and safety regulations.

Project investors have been directed to assess the feasibility of using coal ash in infrastructure projects, identifying potential applications where it can be used directly or combined with binding agents for roadbed stabilization.

The Ministry of Construction has also introduced technical guidelines for utilizing industrial byproducts, including gypsum from power plants and slag from steel mills. These guidelines are expected to help industry stakeholders integrate alternative materials into road construction and land development.
