HCMC – Vietnam secured its first contract to export 5,000 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to South Korea, signaling a breakthrough for the nation’s UAV sector.
Vietnam’s CT Group and a South Korean drone technology firm signed a memorandum of understanding for the shipment on August 12 at the Vietnam-Korea Economic Forum in Seoul, witnessed by Party General Secretary To Lam and South Korean Prime Minister Kim Min Seok.
According to CT Group, its heavy-duty transport UAV models, with payload capacities ranging from 60 to 300 kilograms, have an 85% localization rate and feature core technologies and semiconductor chips designed in Vietnam.
UAVs are being rapidly deployed in passenger and cargo transport, distribution, agriculture, forestry, healthcare, surveillance, rescue, firefighting, tourism, security monitoring, and carbon credit tracking.
Breaking into the South Korean market underscores the competitiveness of Vietnamese enterprises on the international technology stage.
In addition to UAVs, CT Group announced an export order of 100 million semiconductor chips for a South Korean partner, signaling that Vietnam is ready to step into high-tech arenas such as semiconductors and space automation.
