HCMC — Vietnam is seeking access to Japan’s strategic oil stockpiles and jet fuel reserves to shield its economy from the impact of the Middle Eastern conflict.
Speaking at his meeting with Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Ito Naoki on March 17, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh proposed Japan provide energy support for Vietnam, especially fuel, at a time when tensions in the Middle East are impacting global oil supplies.
Vietnam and Japan enter the third year of their comprehensive strategic partnership in 2026, a year described by PM Chinh as a breakthrough period for bilateral ties.
Ambassador Ito Naoki said that he would inform the Japanese government of Vietnam’s request for energy support and that Japan and other G7 nations had decided to open their fuel reserves to boost supplies on the global market.
