Vietnam sees continued decline in daily Covid cases

HCMC – The Ministry of Health this evening, May 2 confirmed 3,123 fresh Covid cases nationwide, down 595 against yesterday. This is the lowest daily case count in 195 days.

Hanoi City still took the lead in new cases, at 761, while other localities detected fewer than 200 infections each.

The latest cases have raised the country’s caseload so far to over 10.65 million.

Over 1,000 Covid patients were announced to have recovered today, taking the total recoveries to nearly 9.3 million.

The ministry also reported two new Covid deaths, with one in Dong Nai and the other in Ha Nam. The coronavirus death toll so far is 43,044.

The country has to date administered 215 million doses of Covid vaccines nationwide.

As of April 29, more than 232,000 children aged 5-11 in HCMC had been vaccinated against Covid, according to the municipal Department of Health.

The city will continue inoculating children in this age group after the four-day national holiday of Reunification Day (April 30) and International Labor Day (May 1).

On April 18, all districts and Thu Duc City in HCMC kicked off the vaccination drive for children under 12, using the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, the local media reported.
