HCMC – The Ministry of Health reported 6,068 new daily Covid cases today, April 29, down by 1,048 cases day-on-day.
Hanoi still had the highest number of new cases, at 843, followed by Phu Tho with 386 and Gia Lai with 341. Other provinces had fewer than 300 cases each.
Over 3,200 Covid patients were declared free of Covid, sending the country’s total recoveries to nearly 9.25 million.
Today, the country recorded only one Covid death in Bac Kan Province, the lowest since June last year.
At a regular press briefing of the Government today, Deputy Minister of Health Do Xuan Tuyen said Vietnam will apply the five popular anti-pandemic measures flexibly.
Masking and hand washing should be maintained, while keeping a safe physical distance, making health declarations and avoiding large gatherings will be applied more flexibly, depending on the conditions of agencies, units and localities.
Tuyen said Vietnam was among the six countries with the highest Covid vaccination rates. The country has vaccinated residents aged 12 and older and administered 1.2 million vaccine doses to children aged between five and 11.
However, in the upcoming Reunification Day (April 30) and International Labor Day (May 1) holiday, large gatherings should be avoided to prevent virus transmission.
Besides these five anti-pandemic measures, the Ministry of Health has accelerated the administering of the third shot to adults and studied the administering of the fourth shot.
Tuyen added that no country in the world had considered Covid-19 a common disease. However, some countries, such as the United Kingdom and Denmark, have eased their anti-pandemic measures.
The World Health Organization has warned about possible new coronavirus variants in the future.
Vietnam is in a transition stage to consider Covid-19 a common disease, the deputy minister said, adding that the Ministry of Health has been adjusting anti-pandemic measures for the stage.
