HCMC — Vietnam has shipped the first container of tilapia to Brazil as part of a broader plan to expand agricultural exports to South America.

The 24-ton container left HCMC Port on November 6 for delivery to Brazilian food company JBS, the Vietnam News Agency reported.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Brazil Bui Van Nghi said the shipment follows efforts to connect businesses and promote Vietnamese farm and seafood products in Brazil and Latin America.

The container is the first of 32 ordered by JBS, totaling 700 tons of tilapia. The fish will be supplied to supermarket chains, the HORECA sector, and JBS’s product showroom in Brazil.

The shipment is expected to arrive at Santos Port on December 17.

Nghi said the embassy will continue working with companies and local authorities to support trade promotion and address market-entry issues to help more Vietnamese products reach Brazil and South America.

Vietnam and Brazil are also pushing negotiations toward a trade agreement between Vietnam and the MERCOSUR bloc, which Brazil chairs in 2025.
