HCMC – Vietnam’s Party General Secretary To Lam and South Korean President Lee Jae Myung on August 11 witnessed the signing of a series of agreements to strengthen cooperation in multiple sectors.
The documents, signed after talks in Seoul, cover science and technology, copyright, renewable energy, labour exchange, central banking, financial market oversight, education, fisheries, and training in nuclear energy. The two sides also signed a cooperation pact between Danang City and Pyeongtaek City.
This is Lam’s first visit to South Korea in his capacity as Vietnam’s top Party leader and the first state visit hosted by the new South Korean government. Both sides said the trip would help expand bilateral cooperation.
Vietnam and South Korea established diplomatic ties more than 30 years ago and have since upgraded their relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership.
At a joint press briefing, the two leaders agreed to expand engagement between their parties, governments, and legislatures; strengthen cooperation in diplomacy, defence, and security; and work together on non-traditional security issues, including transnational crime, cybercrime, and drug trafficking.
They pledged to increase investment linked to technology cooperation, with priorities including infrastructure, high-tech electronics manufacturing, semiconductors, artificial intelligence, renewable energy, and smart city projects.
Both countries committed to facilitating trade and market access to help achieve a bilateral trade target of US$150 billion by 2030, and to cooperate on transport, energy, digital, and climate-resilient infrastructure.
