HCMC – The Ministry of Finance will conduct a nationwide economic census from January 5 to August 31 to collect data on enterprises, cooperatives, organizations, and business households.
According to the Vietnam News Agency, the Ministry of Finance has issued Decision No. 2837 on organizing the 2026 nationwide economic census.
The upcoming economic census will gather data on a wide range of production and business entities, including corporations, enterprises, cooperatives, people’s credit funds, non-public service institutions, associations, individual business households in non-agriculture, forestry, and fishery sectors, partnerships, religious and belief establishments, and the branches or representative offices of enterprises and foreign non-governmental organizations operating in Vietnam.
It will focus on collecting five main groups of information: identification details, business sector and economic type of each unit; production and business conditions such as labor, assets, and capital; business performance including products, revenue, and expenses; the extent of science and technology adoption, particularly in information technology, digital economy, and e-commerce; along with other in-depth specialized data.
The data collection will be carried out in two phases.
In the first phase, from January 5 to March 31, 2026, authorities will gather information from individual business households in non-agriculture, forestry, and fishery sectors, partnerships, as well as religious and belief establishments.
The second phase will take place from April 1 to August 31, 2026, during which authorities will collect information from enterprises, non-public service institutions, associations, as well as branches and representative offices of enterprises and foreign organizations.
The preliminary results of the census are expected to be released in January 2027, with the final results scheduled for publication in the third quarter of 2027.
A key highlight of this census is the extensive use of existing administrative databases and the application of information technology throughout the entire process, from data collection to processing.
To ensure uniform implementation, the prime minister will establish a central steering committee for the 2026 economic census.
The Ministry of Finance has been assigned to lead and coordinate with ministries, sectors, and localities to develop detailed plans and build the census database.
