HCMC – E10 biofuel will replace traditional gasoline nationwide from June 1 under a roadmap issued by the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

The plan, set out in Decision No. 273/QD-BCT, outlines steps to implement biofuel blending as part of the country’s green energy strategy and its target of net-zero emissions by 2050.

The ministry assigned the Agency for Innovation, Green Transition and Industry Promotion to lead the rollout. The agency will coordinate with other ministries and agencies to review technical regulations and national standards on the storage, transport and blending of biofuels.

It will also study financial mechanisms, as well as tax and fee policies, and submit proposals to the Government to support producers and consumers during the initial transition period.

Local authorities and fuel distributors have been instructed to finalize detailed action plans before June 1. They must ensure sufficient infrastructure and supply for the market.

Communication campaigns will be expanded to address consumer concerns about the technical safety of biofuels for vehicle engines.

After E10 is introduced nationwide, E5 RON 92 biofuel will continue to be sold in parallel until December 31, 2030, before further adjustments are made in line with socio-economic conditions.

Earlier, Japan’s Mitsui & Co. expressed interest in establishing a commercial ethanol supply chain for the Vietnamese market. Ethanol is blended with conventional gasoline to produce fuels such as E5 and E10.

The company described Vietnam as a key Southeast Asian market and indicated it is prepared to supply competitively priced ethanol to support the E10 blending roadmap.
