HCMC – The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) ) has introduced a plan to test-use biometrics to identify passengers at the airport checkpoint, such as fingerprint screening, image capturing and face recognition scanning in the first quarter of this year.

This year the CAAV will coordinate with the Airports Corporation of Vietnam, the Van Don International Airport, other relevant authorities to test biometrics at all airports.

The plan is intended to determine whether the use of biometrics would reduce the boarding time for air passengers, improve the accuracy and efficiency of the aviation industry, prevent passengers from using falsified travel documents and recognize those being banned from airlines and those on the wanted list.

Preliminary results of the airport biometrics plan in the first quarter of this year will be reported to the Ministry of Transport.

According to the Vietnam News Agency, the Ministry of Transport and aviation agencies will hold a conference to discuss the orientation for the official rollout of biometrics technology at the airports in the second quarter of this year.
