Vietnam, U.S. see strong potential for cooperation in semiconductor, AI industries

HCMC – Vietnam and the U.S. hold significant potential for cooperation in the semiconductor and artificial intelligence (AI) industries, especially following the recent upgrade of their bilateral relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership.

Vietnam’s Party General Secretary and State President To Lam participated in a seminar on September 22 (New York time) focused on enhancing Vietnam-U.S. cooperation in these high-tech sectors during his visit to the U.S.

The seminar brought together leaders and experts from leading U.S. tech firms and organizations, including AMD, Google, Marvell, the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA), and SEMI, the global semiconductor association.

In his remarks, Vietnam’s Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung emphasized the continuous development of the Vietnam-U.S. relationship, particularly in economic, investment, and trade collaboration.

He highlighted the vast potential for cooperation between Vietnamese and U.S. partners in high-tech fields like semiconductors and AI, noting that these industries present new opportunities for businesses in both countries to leverage each other’s strengths.

Minister Dung added that the Vietnamese Government recently launched a program to develop human resources for the semiconductor industry, alongside a national strategy for advancing this sector. The country aims to train 50,000 engineers in the semiconductor field by 2030, a crucial step to support industry growth.

At the seminar, representatives from leading U.S. and global tech companies shared their insights on the international development of the semiconductor and AI industries. They commended Vietnam’s strategy and expressed optimism that the country will emerge as an attractive destination for investors in these sectors.

Speaking at the event, Party General Secretary and State President To Lam reiterated Vietnam’s commitment to prioritizing advancements in science, technology, and innovation.

He stressed that the country encourages investment in high-tech projects, particularly in semiconductors, AI, research and development, renewable energy, and green hydrogen. These areas align with the strengths and potential of U.S. investors.

Lam expressed confidence that cooperation between Vietnam and the U.S. in these industries would unlock opportunities for businesses in both countries to capitalize on each other’s advantages.
