HCMC – Vietnam has called on the relevant parties to end the armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine, use dialogue to resolve tension and guarantee the security and safety of the Ukrainian people.

At the emergency special session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly on March 1, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Head of the Permanent Delegation of Vietnam to the UN, affirmed Vietnam’s consistent standpoint on solving international disputes by peaceful means.

Giang also shared his heart-wrenching experience in long wars at the session held to discuss Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine.

Vietnam realizes that wars and disputes often result from outdated theories on politics, violence, domination and use of military force, Giang added.

Voicing concerns over the ongoing tension between Russia and Ukraine, the Vietnamese representative called on the parties to conduct dialogues and seek long-term solutions to end the conflict, the local media reported.

Ambassador Giang highly valued the dialogue held on February 28 between Russia and Ukraine, expecting the two to resolve the conflict peacefully.

It is necessary to protect people and infrastructure in line with the International Humanitarian Law, Giang said, proposing the international community offer support and assistance to Ukrainian residents.

Besides, the Vietnamese representative also proposed the two sides guarantee the safety of foreigners living in Ukraine, including Vietnamese citizens, and create favorable conditions for evacuation.
