HCMC – Bao Lan Textile and Ecofa Vietnam have introduced ANANAS, an eco-friendly fiber, yarn, and fabric made from pineapple leaves, a byproduct commonly found in Vietnam’s agriculture sector.

This innovation is the result of a three-year strategic collaboration, during which the two companies developed a scalable process to convert underutilized pineapple resources into eco-textiles.

ANANAS is the first commercially produced, plant-based textile material of its kind in Vietnam, and it is protected by the Intellectual Property Office of Vietnam.

Ecofa Vietnam serves as the primary supplier of cottonized pineapple fiber for Bao Lan Textile. Bao Lan specializes in producing large quantities of ANANAS yarn and fabric, offering customized development solutions for textile manufacturers, garment producers, and fashion brands.

To produce the fiber, Ecofa partners with farmers and cooperatives in provinces such as Dien Bien, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, and Tien Giang to harvest pineapple leaves. Using a specially designed carding machine, invented by Ecofa’s founder and engineer, Do Van Nam, the company began production trials in mid-2021.

By early 2024, Ecofa was supplying 18 tons of cottonized pineapple fiber each month, harvested from over one million tons of pineapple leaves. The company aims to increase production to 50 tons per month by the end of 2025.
