HCMC – Vietnam’s airports served nearly 60 million passengers in the first half of this year, up 9% from a year earlier, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam.
International passenger numbers reached 22.9 million, while domestic travelers totaled almost 37 million.
The total aviation market handled 41.3 million transported passengers, a 10% year-on-year increase. Of these, 23 million were international passengers, up 13%, and 18.4 million were domestic, up 7%.
Vietnamese airlines transported 28 million passengers in the period, down 7%. International passenger numbers rose 8% to 9.6 million, while domestic volumes remained flat at 18.4 million.
Air cargo throughput at all airports rose 12.5% to more than 811,000 tons. International cargo accounted for 580,000 tons. Domestic cargo reached over 31,000 tons.
Total freight across the aviation market increased nearly 15% to 695,700 tons. International freight grew almost 18% to 580,000 tons. Domestic cargo rose 1% to 116,000 tons.
Vietnamese airlines carried 223,600 tons of cargo in the first half, up over 6%. International freight rose more than 12%, while domestic cargo edged up 1.3%.
