HCMC – Vietnam exported 1.2 million tons of coffee worth US$6.42 billion between January and August, up 8.7% in volume and 59.1% in value year-on-year, data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment showed.

The export value has already surpassed the previous full-year record of US$5.6 billion set in 2024, putting the country on course to approach US$8 billion in the 2024-2025 crop year.

Trinh Duc Minh, chairman of the Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Association, described this as a spectacularly successful year for the coffee industry.

He said the success came not only from high prices but also from a strategy focused on improving quality through the development of specialty coffee, obtaining sustainability certifications, and meeting international standards.

Vietnam’s average coffee export price in the January-August period was estimated at US$5,580 per ton, up 46.4% year-on-year.

Germany, Italy and Spain remained the largest buyers of Vietnamese coffee, accounting for 14.5%, 7.5% and 7.4% of total exports, respectively.

Compared to the same period last year, export value to Germany doubled, while shipments to Italy rose 51.5% and to Spain jumped 60.8%. Notably, exports to Mexico skyrocketed, surging by more than 91-fold, while China recorded a modest but positive increase of 11.7%.

Vietnam’s coffee industry is not only increasing export volumes but also moving up the value chain with greater deep processing, specialty coffee production, and stronger footholds in demanding markets such as the EU, U.S., Japan, South Korea, and China.

These gains stem from a broad set of measures, including technology investment, enhanced supply chain transparency, improved traceability, and effective leverage of free trade agreements like the EVFTA, UKVFTA, and CPTPP.
