Vietnam’s internet speed hits record high for seventh consecutive month

HCMC – Vietnam’s fixed broadband speed continued to rise in SeptemberHCMC – Vietnam’s fixed broadband speed continued to rise in September, marking the seventh consecutive month of record performance, according to data from i-Speed, the internet speed measurement platform operated by the Vietnam Internet Network Information Center (VNNIC) under the Ministry of Science and Technology.

The country’s average fixed broadband download speed reached 272.44 Mbps, while the upload speed stood at 202.05 Mbps. This upward trend has persisted since March 2025, when network performance began showing consistent gains, the Vietnam News Agency reported.

Among major cities, internet quality remained stable in Hanoi, HCMC, Haiphong, Danang, and Can Tho, with Hanoi continuing to lead nationwide, recording a download speed of 337.01 Mbps.

Viettel and VNPT remained the two fastest internet service providers in Vietnam. Viettel recorded a download speed of 320.71 Mbps and an upload speed of 277.36 Mbps, while VNPT achieved 259.45 Mbps for downloads and 188.74 Mbps for uploads.

For mobile broadband, Vietnam’s average nationwide speed in September reached 83.48 Mbps for downloads and 28.05 Mbps for uploads. Danang topped the list of cities with the fastest mobile internet, achieving 203.69 Mbps in download speed—nearly double that of Can Tho, which ranked second at 115.81 Mbps.

According to data from Ookla, the operator of Speedtest, Vietnam’s fixed broadband speed in August 2025 was 261.8 Mbps, ranking 10th globally—a significant jump from 33rd place in March 2025. The country’s performance outpaced several developed markets, including Switzerland, Denmark, and China.

Viettel’s broadband speed has increased by 58% since early 2025, while Vietnam’s mobile broadband ranked 16th worldwide, marking the first time the country’s fixed and mobile networks have both entered the global top 20.
