HCMC – Thang Long, the largest single-body high-speed ship in Vietnam, has been launched and will ply the Vung Tau-Con Dao waterway route next month, offering tourists a new means of travel between mainland Vung Tau and Con Dao Island.
Phu Quoc Express JSC and 189 One Member Limited Liability Company jointly held the ship launch ceremony yesterday, May 6, in the northern port city of Haiphong, the local media reported.
The four-story ship is 77.46 meters long and capable of carrying 1,017 passengers. This super craft is also fuel-efficient and eco-friendly. It can travel at a maximum speed of 30 nautical miles an hour.
The Thang Long ship is designed for the Vung Tau-Con Dao route only. This is reportedly the toughest and longest route among those linking the mainland with tourist islands in Vietnam.
Vu Van Khuong, board chairman and general director of Phu Quoc Express Company, said its fleet comprised 11 ships operational on routes between the mainland and popular islands in the country such as Phu Quoc, Con Dao, Nam Du and Ly Son.
