HCMC – National Assembly (NA) Chairman Tran Thanh Man arrived in Switzerland on July 27 (local time) to attend the 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament.
The conference, held every five years, runs from July 29 to 31 at the United Nations Office at Geneva. Organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in cooperation with the United Nations, the summit brings together parliamentary leaders from around the world to discuss international cooperation and legislative responses to global challenges.
The 6th edition, themed “A world in turmoil: Parliamentary cooperation and multilateralism for peace, justice, and prosperity for all,” includes plenary sessions, panel discussions, roundtables, and keynote presentations.
Vietnam has been an IPU member since 1979. The NA chairman is scheduled to speak at the plenary session, outlining Vietnam’s legislative role in addressing global issues.
Vietnam and Switzerland established diplomatic relations in 1971. Switzerland is one of Vietnam’s top European trading partners, while Vietnam is Switzerland’s fourth-largest partner in ASEAN. Bilateral trade reached US$811.29 million in 2024.
Vietnam’s participation aims to reinforce its commitment to multilateralism and its engagement with the IPU and the United Nations.
