HCMC – Vietnam’s exports of phones and phone parts in the first four months of this year amounted to US$18.4 billion, up by 6.6% year-on-year, according to the General Statistics Office.
In April alone, shipments of phones and phone components expanded by 9.1% over the year-ago period to US$4.2 billion.
These items were the second largest export revenue earner in January-April, trailing behind cameras, camcorders and components.
Vietnam has overtaken India as the world’s second largest exporter of smartphones, after China.
The U.S. was Vietnam’s largest phone importer, spending over US$3.05 billion on imports of phones and components from Vietnam in the first quarter of 2024, a year-on-year increase of 30.4%. Meanwhile, China imported over US$2.5 billion of these items from Vietnam, a 28% decline versus 2023.
The United Arab Emirates has emerged as Vietnam’s third largest phone buyer, with imports totaling US$897.984 million, a 55.3% increase from the same period last year.
Currently, smartphones made in Vietnam hold a 13% global market share.
