Thirty-five years after its establishment (1990–2025), the Vietnam Plastics Association (VPA) stands as the shared home of more than 4,000 enterprises, representing one of Vietnam’s most dynamic and globally integrated industries. This milestone not only honors an extraordinary journey of growth but also reaffirms the industry’s vision and ambition in the era of national rise, where green growth, circular economy, and innovation are the cornerstones of sustainable competitiveness.
A 35-Year Journey of Growth and Integration
Founded when Vietnam’s plastics industry was still in its infancy, the VPA has played a pivotal role in connecting businesses, promoting knowledge sharing, and supporting technology transfer. Today, the industry contributes 6–7% of Vietnam’s total industrial output, creates jobs for over 250,000 workers, and exports to nearly 190 countries. Beyond the impressive figures lies a transformation in mindset — from quantity-driven expansion to quality-based, sustainable development. Enterprises are increasingly investing in automation, eco-design, recycling, and green materials, while aligning business operations with ESG principles.
From Aspiration to Action
The highlight of the VPA’s 35th Anniversary was the panel discussion “Vietnam’s Plastics Industry in the Era of National Rise,” gathering policymakers, economists, and business leaders to discuss strategic orientations for the new phase of growth. Mr. Dinh Duc Thang, Chairman of the Vietnam Plastics Association, emphasized: “We are entering a new phase where global green standards and environmental requirements are becoming increasingly stringent. This is not a challenge but an opportunity for transformation — to advance technology, promote circularity, and enhance sustainable competitiveness.”
As Chairman of VPA (Term VII, 2023–2028) and Chairman of Stavian Group – a large-scale multinational industrial – technology, and trading corporation that focuses on five core sectors: industrial production, high technology, industrial infrastructure development, energy transition, and trading & investment, Mr. Thang brings a strategic perspective that bridges industry and policy. He has set five priorities for the next phase: pursuing sustainable, quality-driven growth; accelerating eco-design and circular economy; improving certification and traceability capacity; and strengthening partnerships between government, enterprises, academia, and international organizations.
Mr. Thang concluded: “Our aspiration for advancement is not a slogan but a commitment to action. Vietnam’s plastics industry will proactively innovate, secure raw materials, and follow a path that is sustainable, circular, and human-centered.”
The 35th Anniversary Celebration marked not only a milestone of gratitude but also a declaration of determination — affirming Vietnam’s plastics industry’s readiness to rise in the new era with resilience, intellect, and unity.
