HCMC – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the expanded BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia on the evening of October 24 (local time).

In his remarks at the meeting, President Putin welcomed and thanked Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the high-level Vietnamese delegation for attending the expanded BRICS Summit.

Both sides shared the view that the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations has been continuously strengthened.

But they noted that the comprehensive strategic partnership has yet to fully achieve its potential. The two countries need closer cooperation in key sectors such as trade, investment, and tourism, and in new areas like renewable energy and infrastructure, they agreed.

PM Chinh reaffirmed Vietnam’s commitment to supporting Russian investments in its market, urging Russia to collaborate further in various sectors to strengthen bilateral relations.

Energy cooperation, particularly in oil and gas, remains a cornerstone of the Vietnam-Russia relationship, and both leaders agreed to advance energy projects focused on green growth and sustainable development. In the near term, they committed to improving technology transfer, human resource development, and the development of expert teams in Vietnam.

The discussions also covered potential collaboration in science, technology, education, tourism, and transportation, with both leaders agreeing to pursue specific measures to expand their partnership in these sectors.

The meeting marked the conclusion of the Vietnamese delegation’s visit to Russia. PM Chinh and his delegation departed for Vietnam early on October 25 after attending the expanded BRICS Summit at the invitation of President Putin, the 2024 BRICS Chair.
