HCMC – Vietnam’s export rice price has dropped to around US$390 per ton, the lowest since late August 2021, due to abundant supply and weakening demand, according to the Vietnam News Agency.
Traders reported that Vietnam’s 5% broken rice is now priced between US$380 and US$390 per ton, down from US$397 per ton the previous week.
Similarly, India’s rice export prices have hit a 19-month low. India’s 5% broken rice is currently offered at US$416–425 per ton, the lowest since June 2023.
Domestic rice prices in Vietnam have also declined. According to the Vietnam Food Association, 5% broken rice is now priced at an average of VND10,107 per kilogram, down by VND50 per kilogram.
For 15% broken rice, the highest price is VND11,600 per kilogram, with an average of VND9,942 per kilogram, down VND67 per kilogram. Meanwhile, 25% broken rice is priced at an average of VND9,092 per kilogram, a decrease of VND133 per kilogram.
Traders attributed the price drop to sluggish demand and an ample supply of rice.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, as of February 17, the Mekong Delta had begun harvesting around 268,000 hectares out of 1.49 million hectares sown, with an average yield of 6.1 tons per hectare, leading to an estimated 1.64 million tons of rice.
For the Summer-Autumn 2025 crop, localities have already started transplanting on 100,000 hectares out of a planned 1.48 million hectares.
