HCMC – Vietnam exported around 293,500 tons of rice in the first half of November, bringing the country’s total rice exports so far this year to 8.05 million tons, with a total value of US$5.05 billion.
The Vietnam Food Association reported a slight increase in the export price of Vietnam’s 5% broken rice, which rose to US$522 per ton this week from US$515-520 last week. However, market activity remains relatively quiet.
On the global stage, Thailand’s rice export prices have soared to a one-month high on strong demand from traditional markets such as the Philippines, Indonesia, and other Asian countries. This has driven a 20% year-on-year increase in Thailand’s rice export revenue.
Thailand’s 5% broken rice is now priced at US$500 per ton, up from US$490-495 last week. Meanwhile, India’s 5% broken parboiled rice has remained steady at US$440-447 per ton for three consecutive weeks, the lowest since July 2023.
An exporter in Mumbai said that buyers are being cautious and delaying transactions due to the continuous price decline in recent times, as they expect supply to increase in the near future.
In Vietnam’s domestic market, rice prices in the Mekong Delta region experienced slight increases over the past week, particularly for certain rice varieties, according to the Vietnam News Agency.
In An Giang Province, the prices of IR 50404 and OM 5451 rice rose by VND200 per kilogram, ranging from VND7,600 to VND7,800 per kilogram. Meanwhile, Dai Thom 8 and OM 18 rice saw a rise of VND400 per kilogram, reaching VND8,600-8,800 per kilogram and VND8,500-8,600 per kilogram, respectively.
