HCMC – Vietnam’s exports of wood and wooden products amounted to more than US$17.2 billion in 2025, up 5.7% from 2024, maintaining the country’s position among the world’s top five wooden goods exporters.

Furniture remained the main driver of growth. Exports of indoor and outdoor furniture generated US$11.7 billion, placing Vietnam second globally, behind China.

The gains came amid continued volatility in international markets. Data compiled from the Vietnam Forestry Administration and the Vietnam Timber and Forest Product Association (Viforest) showed that the U.S. remained Vietnam’s largest market, accounting for nearly 55% of total export value. Japan and China followed.

Several European Union markets posted strong growth despite tighter environmental regulations. Spain’s imports of Vietnamese wooden products in 2025 picked up more than 60%.

By product category, furniture continued to anchor exports. Wooden-frame seats alone generated more than US$3.5 billion. Wood pellets emerged as a bright spot, with export value rising nearly 50%, while wood chips, though slightly lower year-on-year, still accounted for a significant share of total shipments.

Viforest noted a clear strategic shift within the industry toward greener production, technology investment, and higher value-added products. Foreign direct investment continued to flow into factories adopting clean energy and automation.

The sector, however, continued to face challenges. These included the risk of trade remedy investigations, volatile logistics costs, and growing pressure to secure certified raw materials.

Even so, export performance in 2025 underscored the resilience and adaptability of Vietnam’s wood-processing companies amid repeated disruptions in global markets.
