HCMC – Vietnamese electric vehicle (EV) company VinFast began work today, December 8, on an EV manufacturing plant in the Vung Ang Economic Zone in the central province of Ha Tinh, with plans to inaugurate the facility in July next year.

The factory’s phase-one capacity is 300,000 units per year, which might be scaled up to 600,000 in subsequent phases.

The VinFast Ha Tinh EV plant will be located in a 36-hectare area, which will be developed by Vinhomes Ha Tinh Industrial Zone Investment Joint Stock Company (VHIZ Ha Tinh) — an entity specializing in industrial infrastructure development under the Vingroup ecosystem. VinFast has secured a long-term lease for the facility.

In the first phase, the plant will have three main workshops: a paint shop, a body welding shop, and a vehicle assembly shop. Other workshops will initially share resources with the VinFast Haiphong plant in northern Vietnam and will be added over time based on actual demand.

When operational, the factory is expected to create nearly 6,000 jobs for local workers, a figure that could rise to 15,000 in the future.

VinFast Ha Tinh will focus on producing VF3 and VF5 vehicles, with key components such as chassis, engines, and electronic parts supplied by the VinFast Haiphong plant. Meanwhile, part of the battery supply will come from a battery factory located within the Vung Anh Economic Zone.

Products from VinFast Ha Tinh will be for the domestic market and foreign markets.
