HCMC – Vietnamese electric vehicle (EV) automaker VinFast has announced that it will discontinue its battery rental policy for electric cars and scooters starting March 1.
The battery rental service was launched as a transition plan to reduce upfront costs for buyers, making EVs more accessible.
According to VinFast, customers with electric cars and scooters using rented batteries can either continue with the existing policy or purchase the batteries from VinFast at a discounted price.
To support EV owners, VinFast will extend its free battery charging policy by an additional six months, until December 31, 2027.
For electric scooter owners, the company plans to roll out a nationwide charging box system at authorized stores and dealerships, offering free battery charging for one year.
By the end of 2024, VinFast had delivered 97,399 EVs and 70,977 electric scooters and bicycles worldwide. In 2025, the automaker aims to at least double its global vehicle deliveries compared to the previous year.
