HCMC – Vingroup has withdrawn its investment registration for the North-South high-speed railway project, as the Vietnamese conglomerate shifts its focus toward other priority infrastructure and energy developments.

The diversified business group said it had sent Official Letter No. 764 in 2025 to the Government, seeking to pull out of the big-ticket high-speed rail project proposed in May this year.

Under the proposal, Vingroup’s affiliate VinSpeed planned to contribute 20% of the project’s capital, while proposing that the remaining funding be borrowed from the State at a 0% interest rate, with a loan tenor of 35 years from the date of disbursement.

Vingroup said the decision followed careful consideration and is intended to ensure a more concentrated allocation of resources toward strategic infrastructure projects that the group has recently been assigned to implement.

Among these is the Olympic Sports Urban Area project in Hanoi, which covers more than 9,000 hectares and is anchored by a complex of high-quality sports facilities, including the 135,000-seat Trong Dong Stadium.

The project is classified as having national significance and is expected to require substantial capital investment as well as a tightly managed implementation schedule.

Alongside this project, Vingroup has also been appointed as the investor for several other major transport infrastructure routes, including the Ben Thanh-Can Gio high-speed rail line and the Hanoi-Quang Ninh route.

In addition, it is rolling out a series of large-scale industrial and energy projects, including the VinMetal steel manufacturing plant, two wind power plants in Ky Anh of Ha Tinh Province, the Haiphong LNG power plant, and the Vinhomes Green Paradise Can Gio urban development project.

All of these projects require substantial resources in terms of capital, time, and organizational capacity.
