HCMC – The Ministry of Transport has approved a master plan to expand Vinh International Airport to boost its capacity to eight million passengers annually by 2030.

Located in Nghe An Province, the airport will continue to serve both civilian and military purposes. By 2030, it is expected to handle eight million passengers and 25,000 tons of cargo per year.

The existing terminal T1 will be expanded to accommodate five million passengers annually, while a new terminal, T2,  will be built between the two runways, initially designed for three million passengers.

Looking ahead to 2050, the airport is projected to handle 14 million passengers and 35,000 tons of cargo per year. Terminal T2 will be expanded to increase its capacity to nine million passengers, bringing the total airport capacity to 14 million.

A second runway, 3,000 meters long and 45 meters wide, is also planned as part of the expansion. The project will require 543.53 hectares of land, with an additional 96.5 hectares reserved for future development.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam will finalize planning documents and work with the Nghe An Province People’s Committee and other relevant agencies to implement the expansion project. Local authorities will integrate the project into regional development plans and ensure land availability for future growth.
