HCMC – Vinh Long Province has set its sights on becoming the marine economy hub of the Mekong Delta in the next five years, with a strong focus on energy, seaports, and transport infrastructure, according to the provincial Party Congress resolution.
The resolution identifies marine economy development as the core driver to accelerate Vinh Long’s growth in the coming years. The province aims to lift its average gross regional domestic product (GRDP) growth from the current 5.58% to 10% within five years, with a long-term vision toward 2030.
In energy, Vinh Long has updated its planning to add 2,900 MW of wind power and 150 MW of solar power by 2030. It has also completed the feasibility study for a 1,000 MW offshore wind power plant and plans to expand the second phase of existing wind projects. Vingroup is also exploring investment in a 3,000 MW coastal wind farm in the province.
Currently, 13 wind farms and the coastal thermal power complex contribute 30 billion kWh annually to the national grid, equivalent to VND25 trillion. New energy projects are expected to position Vinh Long as a regional-scale energy hub.
On marine infrastructure, the province is developing three major international port systems. These include the Giao Long, Ham Luong, Thanh Phu, and Binh Dai cluster in the former Ben Tre Province, capable of handling vessels of up to 50,000 tons, the Duyen Hai–Dinh An and Tra Cu cluster in the former Tra Vinh Province, also for ships of up to 50,000 tons, and the Vinh Thai and Binh Minh ports on the Hau River in the former Vinh Long Province, which can accommodate vessels of up to 20,000 tons.
Vinh Long is also investing in inland container depots (ICDs), logistics facilities, and multimodal transport networks to establish a regional marine logistics hub at the Dinh An Economic Zone.
To enhance connectivity within the Mekong Delta and with HCMC, the province is expediting work on a 112-kilometer coastal road passing through major estuaries such as Cua Dai, Ba Lai, and Ham Luong, and linking with Dai Ngai Bridge on National Highway 60. This section is part of the southern coastal road project stretching over 900 kilometers.
Once completed, the route will serve as a vital economic corridor linking coastal urban areas in the southeast and southwest, cementing Vinh Long’s role as a key transport and logistics hub in the southern economic region.
