HCMC – Vinh Long Province on January 21 held talks with the British Consulate General in HCMC to strengthen cooperation in investment and renewable energy, with a focus on wind power and clean energy projects.
The meeting was led by William Lawrenson, the UK’s deputy consul general and head of trade and investment for HCMC, and aimed to explore opportunities for UK technical and financial support in the province’s energy development plans, reported the Vietnam News Agency.
Nguyen Truc Son, vice chairman of the Vinh Long People’s Committee, said after the merger of Ben Tre, Tra Vinh and Vinh Long, the new Vinh Long Province covers more than 6,200 square kilometers and has 124 communes and wards. It is located in the center of the Mekong Delta, with road and waterway connections to Can Tho City and HCMC.
He added that Vinh Long has a coastline of about 130 kilometers, creating conditions for developing the marine economy and renewable energy, particularly wind power.
According to provincial data, Vinh Long’s exports to the UK reached more than US$65.7 million in 2025, up nearly 26% year-on-year. Twenty-seven local companies are exporting garments, coconut-based products and seafood to the UK market.
The province is currently home to four UK-invested projects with total registered capital of about US$110 million. Two UK non-governmental organizations are also supporting scholarships for local children, with total funding exceeding VND1.5 billion.
Nguyen Truc Son said Vinh Long is prioritizing investment in secondary projects in industrial parks, renewable energy development, and marine economic infrastructure. The province aims to attract UK investors with strong financial capacity and advanced technology, especially in clean and renewable energy.
He said local authorities would facilitate administrative procedures and apply incentives in line with Vietnamese law to support green and high value-added projects.
Lawrenson said the UK is implementing a long-term strategy to promote wind power projects globally and is running programs to support workforce training and share experience in renewable energy development.
He expressed interest in expanding business connections and trade and investment promotion with Vinh Long, particularly in clean energy, and supporting the province’s efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and move toward net-zero targets.
