CAN THO — Vinh Long Province has signed a three-party cooperation agreement to promote sustainable tourism development in the 2026–2030 period.

The agreement was signed by the Vinh Long Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Institute for Economic and Tourism Development Research, and HCMC Tourism Magazine.

The partners said they will coordinate to better use local resources and advantages to support tourism growth aligned with the province’s socio-economic goals and development plans for the Mekong Delta.

Cooperation will focus on research and strategic consulting for tourism development in the coming period. The plan prioritizes the creation of distinctive and environmentally friendly tourism products that are consistent with provincial planning and regional linkages.

Priority areas include ecotourism, green tourism, community-based tourism, river tourism and local cultural experiences, according to the agreement.

The three parties will also work together to promote Vinh Long’s tourism image and products in domestic and international markets, targeting growing global demand for sustainable travel.

Training and human resource development will be another focus. The partners aim to improve capacity for tourism managers, tour guides and frontline workers, with an emphasis on community-based tourism.

At the signing ceremony, Nguyen Thi Ngoc Dung, deputy director of the Vinh Long Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said the agreement reflects a shared commitment to placing sustainability, communities and businesses at the center of tourism development.

She said culture provides a foundation for tourism, while information and sports help expand outreach. Tourism, she added, serves as a link to improve local livelihoods.

Vinh Long’s tourism sector has recorded strong growth in recent years. In 2025, the province is estimated to receive about 9.3 million visitors, exceeding its full-year target by more than 1%.

International arrivals are estimated at around 1.3 million, rocketing 171% from the previous year.

Tourism revenue is expected to reach more than VND7.96 trillion, a surge of 117.6% compared with 2024.

The cooperation agreement for 2026–2030 is expected to help address these issues and support more sustainable tourism development in Vinh Long in the coming years.
