HCMC – Tran Duy Dong, deputy secretary of Vinh Phuc Province’s Party Committee, has been elected as chairman of the province’s People’s Committee for the 2021-2026 term, according to local media reports.
At a meeting on July 31, the Vinh Phuc People’s Council reviewed and made decisions on personnel matters. Tran Duy Dong was elected as chairman with 100% of the attending delegates voting in favor.
On July 30, the Vinh Phuc Party Committee held a conference to announce the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat’s decision to transfer and appoint Dong, previously Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment, to join the Provincial Party Committee and its Standing Committee. He was also appointed as deputy secretary of the Provincial Party Committee for the 2020-2025 term.
Dong, 45, is from Thanh Hoa Province and holds a PhD in Economics and a Master’s degree in Public Policy from Japan. He has extensive experience working at the Ministry of Planning and Investment and has served as Deputy Minister since October 2020.
The Vinh Phuc Provincial People’s Committee had been without a leader for almost five months after former chairman Le Duy Thanh was arrested on alledged charges of accepting bribes in the Phuc Son Group case.
Additionally, two other high-ranking officials, Hoang Thi Thuy Lan, former secretary of the province’s Party Committee, and Pham Hoang Anh, permanent deputy secretary of the province’s Party Committee, were also detained on similar charges.
