VN-Index adds 36 points as broad gains mark first post-Tet trading session

HCMC – Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index rose 36.05 points, or 1.98%, to 1,860.14 at the close, with advancing stocks outnumbering decliners nearly fourfold on the Hochiminh Stock Exchange.

A total of 280 stocks increased and 73 others fell. Trading volume reached 756.9 million shares valued at nearly VND23.5 trillion, up 24.1% in volume and 15.8% in value compared with the February 13 session. Block deals accounted for 25.6 million shares worth VND849.9 billion.

The VN30-Index, which tracks the 30 largest-cap stocks, added more than 21 points. Twenty-six of its constituents rose, three declined, and one was unchanged. HDB closed flat. FPT fell 1.9%, VPL dropped 1.1%, and MWG declined 0.9%. In contrast, GAS, GVR and PLX surged to their ceiling prices. BID rose 4.7%, VJC gained 3.4%, and VCB advanced 3.1%.

Mid- and small-cap stocks advanced as well. GEX rose 6.9% with matched volume of more than 24.8 million shares. GEL increased 5.4% with 11.3 million shares traded, and GEE climbed 5.7%.

Oil and gas stocks were still among the strongest performers. BSR and PVD both hit their upper limits, with respective matched volumes of 14.4 million and nearly 11 million shares.

Insurance stocks picked up, led by BVH, which reached its ceiling price. BMI rose 3.2%, MIG increased nearly 3%, and BIC added 1.6%.

Banking, securities, and steel stocks also made gains. SHB picked up 2.3% with 54.6 million shares traded, the highest volume on the market. VIX edged 0.9% higher with over 49 million shares traded. HPG gained 2.4%, and TPB rose 1.9%.

Real estate, consumer, retail, transport, and seafood stocks also advanced. Only software and IT services, essential goods trading, and consumer services declined.

On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index rose 4.77 points, or 1.86%, to 261.83. The exchange saw 120 stocks advancing and 48 others falling. Trading volume reached more than 62.3 million shares valued at VND1.4 trillion.
