HCMC – The VN-Index of the Hochiminh Stock Exchange advanced by 51.61 points, or 3.08%, to close at 1,728.34 points today, March 11, extending its recovery for a second consecutive day.

The benchmark index has regained nearly 75 points over the past two sessions, having plunged more than 115 points at the start of the week.

The market traded positively despite early volatility resulting from investor caution. Selling pressure at lower prices eased, while buyers moved into stocks with strong fundamentals or those expected to benefit from current market conditions. Gains later spread across many sectors.

More than 30 stocks hit their daily upper limits, including those in securities, oil and gas, shipping, and real estate.

During the session, some investors reduced equity holdings and increased cash positions amid global geopolitical uncertainties. Most selling occurred at higher prices rather than at lower levels, allowing the market to maintain its upward trend.

Oil and gas stocks rebounded after two sessions of strong selling. BSR and PET closed at their ceiling prices of VND36,150 and VND26,350. GAS surged 6.19% to VND103,000, PVD gained 4.17% to VND41,200, and PLX increased 2.8% to VND55,200.

Shipping stocks also advanced. GMD, HAH and VSC soared to their daily limits, while VOS added nearly 5% to end at VND14,750.

Securities firms recorded strong gains. VIX, OR and TVS closed at their ceiling prices. TCX rose 5.3% to VND55,600 and VCI gained 4.2% to VND37,200. SSI, VND and HCM increased between more than 2% and nearly 3%.

Real estate and construction stocks also moved higher, with many tickers soaring to their upper prices and several others picking up between 5% and 6.5%.

Banking stocks also advanced, although none of them made it to their daily limits. BID edged down slightly and VCB was unchanged, while the rest closed higher. EIB led the sector with a gain of 6.65% to VND22,450.

In terms of liquidity, SHB recorded the largest trading volume with more than 52 million shares, followed by HPG with nearly 50 million. SSI traded 39 million shares and VIX 37.5 million shares.
