VNPT, a long-established information technology and telecommunications group widely known in the country, has for decades engaged in community service activities across the country. Corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs are implemented from the group level to its member units, which include VNPT branches in various localities and subsidiary companies.
For islands and the poor
Hon Chuoi Island off Ca Mau Province is located nearly 32km from the mainland. The residents primarily make a living through cage fish farming and small-scale trade, and face many difficulties due to the lack of electricity, roads, schools, healthcare stations, and fresh water during the dry season.
Two weeks ago, on June 28, VNPT’s Youth Union partnered with the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union to organize community activities as part of the summer volunteer campaign on Hon Chuoi Island. The delegation visited and presented gifts worth over VND400 million to local residents and children living on the island, as well as the officers and soldiers of the Hon Chuoi Border Guard Station.
As a tech giant, VNPT has also leveraged its tech strength in its community activity there by installing three free 4G access points, and donated five tablets, and various medicines for officers, soldiers, and residents, amounting to over VND80 million. This activity is part of VNPT’s “For Islands and the Poor” program.
Earlier, in response to the “Summer Volunteer Youth Campaign 2024”, on June 16, 2024, VNPT’s Youth Union coordinated with the Youth Union of Vietnam Airlines Corporation and the Ha Tinh Provincial Youth Union to launch and implement social welfare activities in Cam Xuyen District, Ha Tinh Province.
In Cam Xuyen, the campaign included teaching water safety skills to children, donating five free wifi hotspots, building a playground for children, providing 20 scholarships to poor students, and presenting 20 gifts to policy families and disadvantaged fishing families, totaling nearly VND200 million in social welfare value.
Also focused on the homeland’s islands, at the end of 2023, VNPT’s Youth Union participated in the “Youth with the Homeland’s Islands” journey with various activities on Tho Chu Island in Kien Giang Province, such as visiting and gifting local units and armed forces, policy families, and disadvantaged students.
During the journey, VNPT donated and installed 10 free wifi hotspots for the island’s residents worth VND75 million and two free wifi points for the 152nd Regiment officers worth VND15 million. Tho Chu Island currently lacks a power grid, stable internet, and mobile phone signal, so the gift being the free wifi project is highly valuable for the residents and stationed officers.
Educational sponsorship
Besides the aforementioned programs, VNPT regularly sponsors education. In June, VNPT handed over the first smart classroom worth VND200 million in Lam Dong Province to Thang Long Specialized High School, Dalat City.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Mr. Ho Quang Hue, director of VNPT Lam Dong, said, “The smart classroom model helps teachers and the school utilize the benefits of 4.0 technology. It also contributes to innovating educational management and administration, creating a modern digital learning environment connecting schools, teachers, parents, and students.”
In the smart classroom, each student has a tablet with digitized learning content. Teachers can interact with students through a computer or a smart board, assign tasks to the whole class via the interactive board, and monitor students’ progress and the quality of their responses. Teachers can also grade assignments remotely or choose a student’s work to display on the board for review.
Ms. Pham Thi Hong Hai, director of Lam Dong’s Department of Education and Training, stated, “Implementing the smart classroom solution will take lessons beyond the confines of traditional classrooms. Interactive activities and data sharing during learning will not be limited by space and time, stimulating students’ thinking, creativity, and quick learning.”
With a spirit of promoting learning, VNPT has been a key sponsor of the “Vietnam Talent Awards” for 18 years, alongside the Vietnam Association for Promoting Education, with an estimated sponsorship of tens of billions of dong.
In late 2023, VNPT organized the “VNPT with You to School” program at Khong Lao Commune Kindergarten in Phong Tho District, Lai Chau Province. The program provided gifts, including school supplies, winter jackets, and cash worth a total of VND120 million to the teachers and students of the kindergarten.
Regarding this activity, Mr. Do Van Thanh, deputy director of VNPT Hanoi Youth Union, said, “Alongside business activities, the unit always aims for charitable activities in mountainous areas with many difficulties, providing better learning environments for the future generations of the country.”
Blood donation to save lives
In addition to the above programs, voluntary blood donation is a strongly promoted activity at VNPT. At the end of 2023, VNPT organized a blood donation event for 600 young employees at the group’s headquarters. The blood donation campaign has become a beautiful tradition in VNPT’s youth union and youth movement. Blood donation activities are organized regularly and extensively, from the group level to its member units.
Each year, thousands of VNPT members participate in blood donation campaigns. Hoang Duc Son, Standing Deputy Secretary of VNPT’s Party Committee, stated that this voluntary activity is very meaningful, as health is a concern for everyone.
“The blood voluntarily donated by VNPT employees will be sent to the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion to help seriously ill patients in difficult circumstances. This is a precious gift and a noble gesture,” he said.
Not only at the group level, but VNPT local branches also participate in voluntary blood donation, contributing hundreds of units of blood each time.
For instance, on July 6, VNPT Quang Ngai participated in a blood donation event organized by the province. On June 14, VNPT Net Company collaborated with the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion to organize a blood donation event. And on June 19, 2024, in Danang, the Central Network Infrastructure Center collaborated with the city’s Red Cross and Da Nang Hospital to organize the 2024 Voluntary Blood Donation Program.
