HCMC – The Secretariat of the Party Central Committee has issued a warning against Mai Tien Dung, former Minister-Chairman of the Government Office, over his serious violations.

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong chaired a Secretariat meeting today, January 13, to look into the responsibilities of several former and incumbent senior Party members over their infringements of Party and State rules.

The violations committed by Mai Tien Dung caused serious consequences, left negative reviews in society, and hurt the prestige of the Party and the Government.

The Secretariat concluded that Dung violated the principle of democratic centralism, Party and State regulations; showed dereliction of duty in the process of arranging flights for repatriating Vietnamese nationals from abroad at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic; and let a number of officials at the Government Office make requests in contrary to what the prime minister ordered, take bribes and face prosecution and detention.

The others who were disciplined are Chu Xuan Dung, member of the Hanoi City Party Committee, member of the Party Civil Affairs Committee, and vice chairman of Hanoi City; Ma The Quyen, member of the Bac Kan Province Party Committee and Party secretary and director of the provincial Department of Education and Training; Men Pholly, former chairman of the People’s Council in Tri Ton District, An Giang Province; and Nguyen Van Phong, member of the Binh Thuan Province Party Committee and vice chairman of the province.

The Secretariat concluded that Chu Xuan Dung, vice chairman of Hanoi City, showed degradation in political ideology, morality and lifestyle; took bribes; infringed the principle of democratic centralism, Party and State regulations, and the don’ts for Party members; let violations and corruption happen; caused State budget losses; and failed to abide by the Hanoi City Party Committee’s instructions on Covid prevention and control.

As a result, Dung was expelled from the Party. Ma The Quyen, and Nguyen Van Phong also lost their Party membership due to their violations of Party and State rules. Meanwhile, Men Pholly was stripped of all his Party positions.
