Namia River Retreat, a wellness-focused resort in Hoi An, has been named one of 15 founding members of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World (SLH) Wellbeing Collection, a new portfolio highlighting properties where wellness is central to the guest experience.

The collection, launched on August 15, was curated by global wellness experts including spa editor Susan d’Arcy and BeSophro founder Dominique Antiglio. It spotlights destinations offering nature-based experiences, cultural immersion and practices designed to support long-term balance and resilience.

Namia’s wellness philosophy, developed with Lumina Wellbeing, draws on Thuoc Nam (Southern Herbology), a Vietnamese tradition using home-grown herbs and remedies. The retreat also offers practices such as Duong Sinh breathwork, Xong Hoi herbal steam therapy and Dien Chan, a Vietnamese method of facial reflexology.

With 60 private pool villas overlooking nipa palms or river views, Namia integrates circadian lighting systems, herbal gardens and immersive cultural experiences including bamboo cycling and lantern lighting rituals. In November, it will host two retreats focused on Vietnamese herbal traditions and mindful nourishment.

The Wellbeing Collection requires hotels to meet at least eight of 12 criteria ranging from sustainability initiatives to immersive wellness offerings.
